#WhatsOnRKid🐝 New Music Video! No Hot Ashes: “Skint Kids Disco”

If you thought the relentless hype around Stockport’s No Hot Ashes was ever going to wane, think again; the buzz around these boys has now gone ragtime. After the band announced their biggest show to date at Manchester Academy 2, they whisked around the country on a rowdy mini-tour and dropped “Skint Kids Disco,” the second track from their debut EP of the same name.

It’s by far their best output to date, as jittery guitars, a slinking bassline, funky hi-hats and an infectious chorus coalesce to make up an indie-pop banger. The tune has gone down like a Solero on a summers day and has rightfully been accompanied with some nutty visuals. But with a title like “Skint Kids Disco,” the music video was hardly going to involve supermodels pumped full of silicone, twerking on a yacht and throwing around wraps of cash. Leave that malarkey to Young Thug.

Instead, just like a lot of naff budget videos in the late nineties, the lads hop about with their instruments in front of a green screen. There’s not an ounce of seriousness on show, with a black and yellow geometric display flickering and pulsing as the band fool about in front it.

Lead singer Isaac Taylor throws down some nifty choreographed shapes, bassist Jack Walsh puts the boot in on him, Luigi Di Vuono pouts and pops his shoulders whilst drummer Matthew Buckley enjoys a leading role in the first six seconds before the final cut decides to be unkind to him. He should demand a starring role in all forthcoming videos, à la Matt Helders during the Suck It And See era.

If you’re not too much of a “skint kid,” grab tickets to see the lads at Manchester Academy 2 here: https://www.seetickets.com/event/no-hot-ashes/manchester-academy-2/1180118.
